Our Client manufactures precision mechanical components used in the Motion Control Industry. We have an opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer in our Mount Prospect, IL manufacturing facility and office.
The manufacturing Engineer will develop the manufacturing processes for components produced on CNC-machines (5-axis machining centers, mills, and lathes with live-tooling), and take a primary role in our Lean and quality initiatives. The responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer include, but are not limited to:
Developing manufacturing process routing. Interpret component drawing created by our clients design engineers to determine the manufacturing steps for production of the part. Identify the tooling, work-holding and manufacturing equipment and processes necessary to machine the part. Utilize both internal and external resources.
Review and optimize existing manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, and work flow to increase efficiency and product quality, manage costs, reduce lead-times, and improve safety.
Generating CNC programs directly on the machine or through use of CAD/CAM software.
Write work instructions for use in production of components and assemblies
Work closely with Production Supervisor, Materials Manager and manufacturing staff, providing support and trouble-shooting manufacturing processes and/or quality problems.
Serve as role model for safety, participate in Lean improvement initiatives, benchmark state-of-the-art practices, attend educational workshops, review professional publications and maintain strong relationships with vendors.
Assist with special projects including things like equipment justification, shop efficiency improvements, and work analysis.
The ideal candidate will possess the following
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical or General), or equivalent.
5 to 8 years experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, ideally in a low volume/high mix manufacturing environment where discrete precision components are produced on CNC-machines.
Experience conducting Design for Manufacture analysis.
Proficient in CAD/CAM software used in conjunction with 5-axis machining, or lathes with live-tooling (Mastercam or Espirit preferred)
Ability to use 3D modeling software (Solidworks preferred).
Proven track record of specifying the proper manufacturing processes and selecting tooling and fixtures to ensure the highest quality and most efficient process.
Ability to clearly relate the manufacturing process via process documents, routers, process drawings and work instructions.
Knowledge of supplementary manufacturing processing, heat treatment, distortion, work-holding, inspection, continuous improvement processes and lean manufacturing principles.
Experience operating DMG/Mori-Seiki vertical mills and lathes with live-tooling and Mazak Integrex 5-axis machining centers (or equivalent).

General Industry Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineering Position
Manufacturing Engineer (Getting a part, designed by Engineering, ready to produce)
(This is the primary job function and is a must for the position.)
Create CNC programs via CAM Software programming (Prefer experience with 5-axis machines, or Lathes with live tooling.)
Process Engineering
1.Take a machined component drawing and determine the manufacturing steps and methods for how the part will be made. This includes identifying what steps need to be outsourced.
2.Analysis of the times required to produce a part
Estimate times for new jobs
Conduct time studies of existing parts and review new part times
Modify and adjust times in the production software
3.Specify the tooling, work-holding, and manufacturing equipment; may require designing those items when needed
4.Document all manufacturing steps in a manufacturing router
Create and maintain all Bill of Materials
Industrial Engineering
(Candidates that are able to do section I. and can also do this section are preferred.)
Quality Control
1.Develop, document and maintain manufacturing work instructions to assure conformance to quality standards.
2.Troubleshoot quality problems
Design and develop fixtures, jigs, tooling
Quality data tracking (SPC, errors, etc.)
Lean Initiatives
1.Process improvements
2.Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Maps
Manufacturing metrics tracking
III.The ideal candidate will possess the following
